LIFE IS TEACHING …. TEACHING IS LIFE

Plain living and high thinking’ is the teacher’s motto of life. She is a living example for the students to follow. She influences her pupils to a great extent. Teaching is considered a noble profession. Teachers have the very important responsibility of shaping the lives of young, impressionable children. With this responsibility comes great pride and joy.

This is one of the many reasons I shifted my whole carrier path from being a successful software engineer to become a TEACHER. I will have no regrets of choosing this noble profession any time in my life. Personally the passion towards the profession was always there. The circumstances were only a trigger and aspark through which now I am able to light the candle of knowledge in my students.

A good teacher can be defined as someone who always pushes students to want to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting as well as creative. A positive or negative influence from a teacher early on in life can have a great effect on the life of a child. Teachers, especially at the secondary level, must be very creative and approachable with their teaching styles. Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things. It is difficult to keep the attention of the adolescent children.

By setting high standards for a student, the teacher is encouraging the student to do the same and will eventually develop. There are many roles, qualities, and strategies that comprise an effective teacher. Through my observation I have become aware of what makes a good teacher. Some of the ideas are new to me, while others have been reinforced since my own education and volunteer experiences.

Even though teachers instruct students of different ages and abilities, many of the daily roles and qualities are the same for all teachers. In order to have an effective classroom and instruction a teacher must have behavior management strategies. While this is not the most important part of instruction and learning, I feel it is the base for education.

If a teacher does not run a smooth classroom and the students do not listen, she will not be able to fully instruct them and use all of the time allotted. It is also important to have structure in the classroom. In other words, teachers should follow rules made by both the teacher and the students and have certain routine strategies for instruction that students can expect and follow. Teachers possess many important qualities both innate and learned.

William A. Ward quotes “Teachers affect eternity; no one can tell where their influence stops. The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” Therefore I want to inspire each and every one of my student as a teacher and prove to them that my life is a teaching for them and teaching is my life.
